Eight-time world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao makes headlines after describing homosexuals are “worse than animals”.
The boxing champ didn’t immediately back down hours after his interview with a local tv network, saying he was “just telling the truth of what the Bible says.”
But after the video went viral online and netizens starts to debate about the issue, Pacquiao quickly apologized by posting a video on social media.
But that didn’t stop Nike from terminating its endorsement contract with the boxing champ.
Nike released a statement on Wednesday night that reads:”We find Manny Pacquiao’s comments abhorrent. Nike strongly opposes discrimination of any kind and has a long history of supporting and standing up for the rights of the LGBT community. We no longer have a relationship with Manny Pacquiao.”

After Nike’s move on ending ties with Pacquiao, Filipino netizens quickly backfired posting on social media, expressing their displeasure with Nike’s decision.
One netizens said, “No manny no Nike for me! Freedom of speech has been forgotten! Shame on you, money over values smdh regardless personal and business shouldn’t mix, stupid move Nike”
Another social media user writes: “I’ve been buying Nike for 10years and now
I am not boycotting Nike because of Pacman. I am boycotting Nike because of its bias decision. Gotta burn those Nike shoes i have and so as my friends’, i will just tell them someone has stolen it.”
One social media user even compares Tiger Woods’ past issues on Nike’s decision over Pacquiao.
“So Tiger Woods cheats on his wife and Nike keeps him. PacMan shares his beliefs and Nike drops him. Yeah, good one Nike, the company that outsourced their jobs to Asian countries where they only pay their workers $10 a week and charge $100 for shoes. well done Nike.”
And Kobe Bryant too, “Tiger Woods cheating on his wife and Kobe Bryant allegedly molesting a child are still Nike’s product endorsers. Manny Pacquiao might be wrong in his choice of words but I am still proud of this man. Anyway, Manny started from nothing and he had won numerous world division fights without Nike’s help.” said another netizen.
And lastly, this one showing the boxing champ’s fans burning their Nike shoes.
