The Philippines first of two new strategic Sealift vessels (SSV) made by the PT Pal Indonesian named as the BRP Tarlac and the biggest naval ship in the Philippine Navy fleet will be delivered this coming May 2016 Indonesian shipbuilder said.
According to the official of PT Pal Indonesia, the BRP Tarlac is now on its sea trials to test its systems and seaworthiness and will be delivered to the Philippine Navy after the sea trials.
In 2014 PT Pal Indonesia won the bid and was declared as the single most calculated responsive bidder worth P3.8 billion and with a given budget of 4 billion sourced from the Armed Forces of the Modernization Act Trust Fund.
The acquisition of the SSV was made through the approval of acquisition decision memorandum No. 2013-060 and are meant to be used for amphibious operations and transport duties in support of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, but will double as a support platform for Humanitarian and Disaster Relief (HADR) and Search & Rescue (SAR) operations. – R.Beerlak
